Letter From Founder

Why would a mother write about the relationship between fathers and daughters? Why would a mother pursue the creation of an environment for fathers and daughters to communicate and relate? Because I am a daughter, not just a mother and that role is often overlooked and forgotten. I may be an older version of the pictures we often portray in our mind of what a father and daughter together may look like. When we visualize a father and daughter we often think of a four to six year old being thrown in the air then caught in the strength of her fathers arms. Or we see the father waiting with open arms to safely capture his daughter as she awkwardly slides down to the bottom of the slide. Why do those images have to change? Yes, I know the physical limitations as we grow older, but the image, smile, laughter, anticipation and moment of trust should be infinite. The father daughter relationship has been special for a very long time; however I believe that society has just begun to recognize the value and importance placed on this relationship of girls growing into healthy, confident, full women. Fathers need to recognize their influence in their daughters lives and make intentional decisions to set apart time with them. I have noticed that as girls start to move into adolescence, fathers start to back away, becoming distant from their daughters. They are unsure of how to keep their relationship strong as their daughters start to develop into a woman. I believe that is when the daughters need their dads the most. They need their Fathers to validate their beauty, their strengths and encourage them in conquering their weaknesses. It is a proven fact that women are more relational than men. Daughters want their relationship with their Fathers to continue to prosper and grow. Although girls may not know how to express the need for closeness with their Fathers and may be concerned about losing some of their new found independence, Fathers need to recognize the distance that develops between the two of them and consciously pursue a closer relationship with their Daughters. Research demonstrates that fathers are important in the career and academic successes of their daughters. Fathers need to reassure their daughters that they can pursue and achieve their dreams and that they need to believe in the gifts God has given them. Culture and society can not be allowed to dictate who your daughter becomes. Connect with your daughter spiritually, physically and emotionally, instilling proper values and ensuring a safe place for your daughter to cling to. Take the opportunity and invite your daughter to the annual Father Daughter Dinner Dance. Be a model for how a woman should be treated by a man, share your dreams with her, smile, laugh and be open. Create a fresh image in your mind on what a father and daughter spending time together can look like. Provide your daughter with A Moment to Treasure. It has been a joy and honor to serve fathers and daughters since 1997 with this wonderful non-profit ministry. February of 2012 will be the 15th annual father daughter dinner dance. I will be stepping down from my role as chairperson after that event to follow the Lords leading in a different direction. Friday, February 24th, 2012 at 6:30 pm & Saturday, February 25th, 2012 at 6:00 pm The Crowne Plaza Hotel - 2886 Circle Dr., Colorado Springs, ColoradoAn unbelievable event is being planned again for this years annual father daughter dinner dance. Delicious sweet chocolate hearts, dinner music, the traditional father/daughter (high school senior) duet and father/daughter (high school senior) dance are a few of the memorable moments of the evening. •Cost is $45.00 per person and includes the youth symphony chamber quartet, dinner, dessert, program with speaker, and a live eight piece band "Heartbeat" a nationally acclaimed dance band from Starkey Productions.•Recommended age for daughters is 8 through adult.•Semi-Formal/Formal attire is suggested- check out the pictures to get familiar with the evening attire.•Wrist corsages for the ladies ($16.00) & boutonnieres for the men ($6.50) can be pre-purchased on-line when filling in the registration form & will be available for pickup at the event. Flowers are provided by Platte Floral.•Apre Photographers will capture the special moment for an additional cost payable the night of the dinner dance. Apre will be present taking photographs most of the evening. Online Payment is not available for photography services.•Tables seat 10 to 12 people. We do our best to accommodate your friend requests, but we cannot guarantee seating arrangements. It is recommended that you register simultaneously with your friends/family to help ensure your seating request.•All seats are pre-assigned. There is a seating chart at the entry to the ballroom and a place card with your meal choice at your assigned table. Seats are not reserved until you have submitted a completed registration form with payment on-line. Please do not misinterpret a friends request to be seated together as a confirmed reservation.•Jo Golden of Stampin Up has specially designed a unique handcrafted invitation for the dad to present to his daughter in a variety of ways. Fathers can send the invitation to their daughter by mail, present it on a date, place it on her bed with a red rose, give it after a day on the slopes•We are privileged again to dine to the inspiring music of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Quartet and dance the night away with a high-energy 6 piece dance band from Pro-Entertainment in Denver.•Special touches in the ballroom have been added to create a fairy-tale effect. There will be enhanced lighting and fresh-cut flower arrangements designed by the experienced and talented Platte Floral staff. The formal table setting with tea lights helps make this evening a cherished moment to last forever in the daughters hearts.•We have money set aside to assist those in financial need from our generous corporate sponsors and individual donors. We ask that parties requesting a contribution towards their ticket pay at least half the ticket amount.•During the program we feel privileged to take a moment to honor our servicemen. A Daughters Heart recognizes the grave sacrifice that the servicemen make for our country and the time they miss with their daughters while out on assignment. Their service and dedication does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.•Ticket costs are the same for large groups, military personnel and younger children. •Seating is limited and this event does sell out!
